Best pet insurance 2026

Best pet insurance with no annual limit

Most pet insurance caps annual payouts at $5,000-20,000. Cancer treatment alone can exceed that. Here are the insurers that pay out unlimited amounts per year.

Why the annual limit matters more than most owners realize

A $10,000 annual limit sounds like a lot until your dog needs a $6,000 CCL surgery, develops a post-surgical infection requiring hospitalization ($3,000), and then needs follow-up physical therapy ($2,000). You have hit the cap before the year is over.

For breeds with high cancer rates — Boxers, Golden Retrievers, Bernese Mountain Dogs — cancer treatment alone can cost $15,000-25,000. An insurer with a $10,000 limit covers less than half of a serious cancer case.

Only 3 major US insurers offer truly unlimited annual payouts: Healthy Paws, Trupanion, and Figo. Lemonade offers up to $100,000, which covers most scenarios but not all catastrophic cases.

Ranked: best no-annual-limit pet insurance

1

Healthy Paws

Unlimited - best for large breeds enrolled young

No annual or lifetime limit. 15-day orthopedic waiting period — the shortest among unlimited insurers. The catch: coverage options reduce at age 5, and hip dysplasia is excluded for pets enrolled at 6 or older. Enroll before age 5 and Healthy Paws is the strongest unlimited option available.

2

Trupanion

Unlimited - best for chronic conditions

No annual or lifetime limit, 90% reimbursement fixed. Per-condition deductible means you pay once per condition and Trupanion covers 90% indefinitely — ideal for diabetes, cancer, or severe allergies. No age restrictions. The downside: exam fees are not covered and the 30-day illness waiting period is longer than competitors.

3

Figo

Unlimited - 100% reimbursement option

Figo is the only insurer offering a 100% reimbursement option — no out-of-pocket costs after the deductible. Unlimited annual limit available. Less widely known than Healthy Paws or Trupanion but strong coverage terms. 6-month orthopedic waiting period.

Lemonade offers up to $100,000 — not unlimited, but more than enough for most catastrophic cases. If Healthy Paws age restrictions apply to your pet, Lemonade is a strong alternative with a much higher limit than most competitors.
