The most important rule for senior pets: Do not switch insurers. Every condition in your pet's records becomes pre-existing at a new insurer. A 9-year-old dog with arthritis, kidney values, and a history of ear infections would have all of those excluded permanently at a new insurer — even if the current insurer covers them.
