Thinking of skipping a vet visit because of cost? Select your pet's symptom first. Your insurance may cover the visit and the diagnostic tests, and skipping could cost you more later.
What is your pet showing?
Things most pet owners do not know
Diagnostic tests are often covered. If your vet recommends bloodwork, X-rays, or an ultrasound, these are typically covered if the underlying condition is covered. Never decline a test just because of cost without checking first.
Skipping can make future claims harder. If a condition progresses untreated, the insurer may argue it was more severe (and therefore pre-existing) at the time of enrollment.
ER bills are 3-5x higher than regular vet bills. A condition that costs $300 to treat today can cost $1,500-$3,000 if it becomes an emergency tomorrow.
Call your insurer before the visit. Get verbal confirmation that the visit and recommended tests are covered. Note the date, time, and representative name.
Your wellness balance may be expiring. If you have a wellness plan, check your remaining balance. Unused benefits reset at renewal and are lost.
